About Sonia (continued) –
Sonia Nelson, M.F.A., brings a longstanding passion for theater to her work with cultural institutions and arts education clients. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management with a minor in Theatre Arts from San Diego State University. She then worked in public relations and marketing for theatre organizations such as the Tony Award Winning La Jolla Playhouse and Broadway San Diego. She was drawn to Seattle to attend Seattle University where she earned her M.F.A. in Arts Leadership and wrote her thesis on Advancing Racial Equity in the Arts. She is particularly interested in how arts organizations utilize their resources to support social justice in their community. She is also a member of Americans for the Arts and is active with the Seattle Art Leadership Team (SALT) through the Office of Arts and Culture.

In her role at MEMconsultants, Sonia supports evaluation through a focus on data management, namely collection, analysis and reporting. She has conducted intercept interviews and gallery observations at multiple cultural institutions. She has administered countless online teacher surveys and analyzed survey feedback from thousands of students collected at the end of a field trip or after school arts program. Sonia plays an important role in reporting on all the projects she supports. In her spare time, she enjoys teaching crochet at her local yarn shop and snuggling her dog.
